Klopp's Side Aiming for Knockout Berth Without Playoff
Liverpool will be aiming to finish atop their UEFA Champions League group this season in order to secure a direct spot in the round of 16. The Reds, managed by Jürgen Klopp, will discover their group-stage opponents when the draw is made on September.
Advancing as group winners would allow Liverpool to bypass the knockout round playoffs, which will be contested by the second- and third-place finishers in each group. The draw will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, on September 2, 2023.
Liverpool are one of the favorites to win the Champions League this season, having won the competition in 2019 and 2020. The Reds have also reached the final three times in the past six seasons.
